SWR Barroselas Metalfest will celebrate their 18th birthday in 2015 and they’re working on building a line-up that that can match such an important coming of age! The first confirmed bands have already been announced and they’re quite the crowd pleasers:
ENTOMBED A.D. https://www.facebook.com/EntombedAD
There’s been quite a rumble with the recent split, but this one of the bands that spearheaded the Death Metal movement back in the nineties, taking the metal world by storm with their first try, the brilliant “Left Hand Path”, considered by many one of the greatest classics of the genre! Over the years different influences were incorporated into their music, culminating in a very own sound that would later be dubbed Death’n’Roll.
IMPALED NAZARENE https://www.facebook.com/ImpaledNazareneOfficial
At a time when all eyes turned to Norway, on the opposite side of Scandinavia some of the most sadistic black, dirty and fast metal in living memory was being crafted. Pitch dark, but with noticeable traces of punk and grindcore, Impaled Nazarene are credited, along with Beherit and Archgoat, as the main drivers of Finnish Black Metal, whose ramifications extend to the present day.
An album was enough for Minsk to catch the attention of the most discerning eye. Their fusion of Doom and Sludge, sprinkled with more atmospheric elements and voices from the deep, promptly catapulted them to the top tier and their second album, “The Ritual Fires of Abandonment”, cemented their image as one of the most dense and intriguing bands around.
Zatokrev, the band formed in Switzerland back in 2002 and one of the foremost exponents of European Doom and Sludge, are back to our country after a very successful stint at SWR X and Amplifest! Their self-titled 2004 album caused a sensation, but it was with “Bury the Ashes”, in 2006, that they truly demonstrated their potential to stifle and crush. The Swiss quartet is back to Barroselas after the release of “The Bat, The Wheel and the Long Road to Nowhere”.
MIDNIGHT PRIEST https://www.facebook.com/midnightpriest
When they appeared in 2009, they were the great classic metal newcomers in Portugal. Their debut album, released by Stormspell Records in 2011, put them on the map of the Heavy Metal world and in 2012 they won access to the Wacken Open Air stage! Now, after changing their frontman and turning from Portuguese to English singing, they take the main stage at SWR Barroselas Metalfest XVIII.
This next band is not unknown to the Barroselas audience, as they already played there in the 2009 and 2011 editions, but this time Equaleft comes with their debut album, “Adapt & Survive”, released in 2014 by Raising Legend Records.
